Skin MD Natural for Sensitive Skin
Sensitive Skin Overview
"Sensitive skin" is a lay (non-medical) term, used widely to describe a specific skin type, which is fair, almost transparent, fine-textured, delicate and quickly responding to any irritation. In practical terms, it's a skin with a thin epidermis, a less substantial outer barrier of lipids and natural moisturizers, and blood vessels located close to the surface.
Due to the structural differences, surface defenses of the skin are lowered considerably and it is highly prone to dryness, allergic reactions, chemical, environmental, mechanical and atmospheric irritation (sunburns and windburns) as well as fluctuations in temperature (flushing from heat and cold). Sensitive skin is easily stimulated by stress, which may cause chronic dehydration and other skin problems.
However, it is more of a condition than an actual skin type. Dermatologists distinct 4 types of sensitive skin, having one characteristic in common, which is inflammation. They are acne, rosacea, burning and stinging, and contact dermatitis (allergic and irritant). In order to control the condition, people with sensitive skin should avoid triggers (factors which may cause flare-ups).
Below are listed common triggers and useful tips on how to care for sensitive skin:
- Sensitive skin may become reddened, develop rashes or show other signs of inflammation in response to a contact with moisture-robbing or irritating substances in your environment (clay, paper, fabrics, construction materials like glues, paints, varnishes, plastics, rubber, wood composites, some metals, etc.).
Avoid direct contact with household chemistry, especially fabric softeners and harsh detergents. Not only are these a potential trigger factor, detergents abrade the skin, stripping away its protective lipid barrier, making the skin more penetrable. The skin's immune function may also be altered.
Keep in mind that even "harmless" products you use daily like shampoos, conditioners, sprays (perfume, cleaning, hair) may cause problems in sensitive skin.
You may also wish to install a water filter in your shower, as chlorinated water may by itself be a cause of skin dryness and irritation, and by-products of chlorination can be toxic systemically. To get rid of dust mites or other airborne allergents room air filtration units can be used.
- Use sunscreen daily to prevent damage from sun exposure.
- Wear natural fabrics like cotton and silk that breathe easily.
- Eliminate junk food from your diet. Include foods with natural anti-inflammatory properties: salmon, tuna, flax seeds.
- Keep your body and skin well moisturized: drink eigth glasses of water a day to improve the body's ability to detoxify, make sure that the air you breathe is not dry (use humidifier to control the humidity), use appropriate skin care products to keep your skin hydrated.
- Choose cosmetics and personal hygiene products carefully:
- Read the list of ingredients before buying any cosmetic products to make sure they do not contain substances which may cause your skin to breakout.
- Test cosmetic products before applying them to large areas of the skin - never use any makeup or perfume without first trying a little of it on the inside of your wrist to see if you get any adverse reaction to it.
- Remember, that even if a product is called "hypoallergenic" (which means "less likely to cause a reaction") it doesn't guarantee that you won't have a reaction to some of its ingredients, for very few items of makeup agree with a sensitive skin.
- If you try new products, try one at a time a week apart, so if you have a problem you know which one it is.
- Make sure that cosmetics you use does not contain fragrances, colorants, formaline and formaldehyde-based (imidazolidinyl urea, diazolidinyl urea, quaternium-15, and DMDM hydantoin) preservatives. These ingredients in cosmetics are a key trigger for many persons, causing adverse skin reactions.
- Acne-prone sensitive skin is most often oily, but it doesn't mean that you should use harsh soaps and skin care products containing alcohol to bring it to normal, as soaps are irritating to the skin and alcohol can overly dry it. Try to washing your face 2 to 3 times a day instead to control oiliness.
Avoid cosmetics that clog pores. Choose natural products for your skin care regimen wisely, as such natural ingredients as avocado and coconut oil may cause the skin to breakout, while producs containing green tea or tea tree oil may help in controlling the condition. Consult with your dermatologist to find out which products suite your skin best. Although Do not use
- Avoid using products containing vitamin C and alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) as they may cause stinging sensation in the skin. Usage of products containing chamomile, feverfew and green tea extracts may be beneficial to effectively reduce the redness and inflammation (in patients that do not have an allergy to these herbs, as people with a ragweed allergy could develop rashes to organic products that contain chamomile, marigold and feverfew).

Skin MD Natural is a shielding lotion that provides protection to the skin and helps restore skin's natural protective abilities. It makes the skin less susceptible to environmental irritants and allergens, which otherwise would be able to cause inflammation and related problems.Jesica

"I'm a natural red-head, and as with most red-heads I have extremely fair and sensitive skin that requires a lot of maintenance. I'm always in search of a better skin-care product, so when I was approached to try Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion with Sunscreen SPF 15 I was thrilled! I found it is a wonderfully light lotion with a very mild scent. It's so light that I actually apply a little to my face each morning (yes, you read that right, I apply it to my face!).
I usually have dry red patches on my cheeks and this lotion has really reduced those patches. Even though the lotion is lightweight, it still provides enough moisture to take care of the rough skin that this cold, dry weather has left on my hands and elbows. The added plus is that it's protecting me from the sun, which is extremely important to me and my fair skin. This product has definitely made it's way into my daily skin-care regimine!"

"Just like me, Prince, my youngest son, has very dry and sensitive skin. In fact, when he was about one it made his toenails fall off! Not once, not twice, but SEVERAL times. They always grew back but can you imagine baby toes with no toe nails?! It definitely freaked me out and made me run to the Doctor's office! The doctor said it was because his skin was very dry and sensitive. For this reason, I'm very vigilant about the products he uses.
Skin MD Natural was kind enough to send me their lotion to review. I was a bit hesitant about using the product on Prince; however, after reviewing several testimonials from board certified dermatologists I felt confident enough to proceed. I am excited to say that after using the Skin MD Natural's lotion, I am switching from my other brand to Skin MD Natural!
It was perfect for an 8 year old boy who will not sit long enough for any body lotion to dry and does not like my "girly smelling" lotions! It did not dry out his skin. Instead, it held true to its advertisement, by moisturizing and shielding it. His skin is no longer ashy and susceptible to cuts. It now looks and feels healthier.
Skin MD Natural is an all natural product that will pamper your skin without hampering your bodies defenses. It is gentle enough for children and adults alike. In fact, I also used it and have seen an enormous change in just a few short weeks. Our skin has gone from dry and flaky to soft and smooth. I can definitely say that I am latinaliciously touchable! Really! Just touch me next time you see me! I dare you! "
"I have sensitive skin, so I usually don't apply products to my face. But I decided to try Skin MD and was super pleased! Not greasy, no clogged pores and no reaction."

"I'm kind of picky about moisturizers since I have oily and sensitive skin, but when I saw that Skin MD Natural's top two ingredients are water and aloe, I was game for the trial. Sure enough, the product delivers as advertised. You only need to use a tiny bit, and it's absorbed very quickly. The whole concept of a shielding lotion was new to me, but I do like the idea of protecting my skin from irritants. Since I swim in a heavily chlorinated pool regularly, I was curious if this stuff would really protect my skin from the harsh chlorine. I've tried it out on my face before swimming, and I do believe this product makes a difference. After using this lotion, my face doesn't feel eaten alive or chapped from the chlorine, as it sometimes does. I guess it is actually shielding me!"

"We have several members of the family with eczema and sensitive skin. In fact, one of my daughters has such sensitive skin that we can only buy detergent without dyes or perfumes or her skin will break out in a rash. After I had used the Skin MD lotion for several weeks without any problems, I turned my entire family (even those with sensitive skin) into reviewers right along with me. I was pleased to note that no one, not even those family members with sensitive skin, had any negative reaction to the product. (That may not seem like much, but if you have sensitive skin it's HUGE!!!)"
"I never put my 'regular' lotion on my face, but the Skin MD Natural with SPF 15 even works on my face. My face does break out, so I was bit worried about trying it on my face. I decided to go ahead and try it. Guess what, I love it for my face. It didn't cause any break outs, feels wonderful and has the SPF in it that I insist on using."
